  1. World Welcome Furniture Give Away Saturday August 13th

World Welcome Family RoomEvery other year, we have the opportunity to welcome Austin’s international students in a very practical way: we make available free furniture and household items!  We focus on the graduate students who come from overseas with nothing but their suitcases.  They don’t go into the dorms on campus, but rather apartment housing that is either lightly furnished or unfurnished.  Of course, it is open to all the international students!

We are looking for your help and support in 3 ways:

    1. We are looking for donated items!  These can be gently used chairs, tables, bed frames (no mattresses, please), drawers, lamps, desks and bookshelves.  Also we need household goods: lamps, plates, pots and pans, cups, coffee makers, toasters, irons, towels, dish towels, sheets and pillow cases, etc. If you have items to donateplease email Nance Friedman:  worldwelcomeinaustin@gmail.com
    2. We are looking for volunteers to collect, deliver and help out on the day of the event: Saturday, August 13th from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.  There are lots of places to help, even if you aren’t able to lift!
    3.  We are also looking for volunteers for the Fall Semester.  This would be as an English Conversation Partner (no teaching experience needed!), or a Support Family for the many students who will come for the furniture and then connect with us for friendship, English help, and a chance to be with a family for a meal or holiday.

If you can help out in any way, please email Nance Friedman:  worldwelcomeinaustin@gmail.com
    Thank you!

  5. Giving With A Generous Heart–A ‘Plunder’ Story

This past Sunday, I shared the story of an ‘Aha!’ moment God gave to one of our congregation’s members, Bonnie Watkins. I have shared Bonnie’s story a couple of times publicly to encourage people as we continue to pray about helping to fund repairs to Hope’s main building complex this summer. When presenting the need as our Sunday night service, Bonnie exclaimed, involuntarily ‘Ah!’ out loud, and then told us how the Holy Spirit was stirring her that night. It’s a great God story. Be encouraged…and ask God for your own plunder.  –geno

You can find the text of Bonnie’s tale on my blog site here.
